RADIOLOGY
The Radiology Department is a very strong diagnostic department with the
latest technologies assisting physicians in determining a diagnosis or course
of treatment. The Department offers two CT Scanners; one of which is a
high-speed multi slice scanner with greatly reduced scan times. Also CT
Imaging, CT Cardiac Scoring, PET Scanner, MRI, general X-rays and Doppler
procedures are available to patients at FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial.
Each procedure is performed by a concerned and compassionate staff member
who understands the anxiety that comes with enduring many tests.
The Radiology Department offers the following:
CT (computed tomography) imaging is particularly useful because it can show
several types of tissue – lung, bone and blood vessels – with great clarity.
Using specialized equipment and expertise to create and interpret CT scans of
the body, radiologists can more easily diagnose problems such as cancers,
cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and musculoskeletal
disorders. CT of the body is a patient-friendly exam that involves little
radiation exposure.
All CT scans require an appointment and many require preparation, please
call (386) 917-5110.
CT scans are covered by most insurance plans.

Cardiac scoring is a painless, non-invasive screening test to estimate the
amount of calcium in the coronary arteries and ranks a patient’s risk factors
for heart complications. This is an especially helpful test for those with
family history of heart disease, over 45 years of age and exhibits no heart
symptoms. CT scans are covered under most insurance plans.
Cardiac scoring is done by a physician referral. For more information
regarding CT or Cardiac Scoring, please call (386) 917-5110.
Insurance companies are not accepting this under their coverage at this
time.

FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial is equipped with a mobile, ultra-high
resolution PET Scanner. A PET Scanner offers patients and their physicians a
new method to evaluate certain tumors, neurological disorders and cardiac
diseases.
PET services are available on Tuesdays at FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial.
For more information about the PET, please call 407-303-3233. To schedule an
appointment, please call 386-917-5428.

FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial’s tubular MRI utilizes a highly
sophisticated 1.0 Tesla field strength magnet that provides cross-sectional
images primarily of the brain, spine and joints.
This scanning shows the physical makeup of bone tissue and the magnet
allows for radio waves to bounce back the signals emitted from the structures
themselves, to create cross-sectional images of the body.
This high tech machine is equipped with a high field strength magnetic
capability that can obtain images of the highest resolution and clarity at a
significantly reduced scan time.
Patients benefiting from an MRI procedure include those with a herniated
disk, spinal cord compression, suspected brain tumors and malignancies,
suspected vessel blockage in the brain and neck, sports injuries and
difficulties with joints in the knee, elbow, as well as wrists, ankles and
feet.
Patients lie completely still to produce clear images. The procedure is
painless and the scanner uses no radiation.
MRI procedures are covered by most insurance plans.

Nuclear Medicine is a device using a gamma camera and radionuclide
(radioactive substances) to provide an image of both the structure and the
function of organs and bones. An appointment is required.
The patient is given a radionuclide by injection, oral medication or
inhalation. Each radionuclide goes to a specific part of the body and shows
the organ’s function. The gamma camera senses gamma rays that are being
emitted from the radionuclide and transfers them to a computer, which produces
an image of the organ on a monitor.
FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial’s Nuclear Medicine equipment
provides a wide angle of imaging procedures including cardiac studies, Nuclear
Stress testing, as well as routine whole body scans, hepatobiliary scans and
thyroid scans. These tests can detect heart blockages, hairline fractures,
diseases of the gallbladder, lungs, brain, kidneys, bone, tumor, abscess and
inflammation.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of the body’s organs. During
an ultrasound procedure, a harmless, odorless, water-soluble gel is applied to
a patient’s body in the area that will be examined. A probe is moved over the
area, transmitting a sound wave. Returning echoes from the patient’s body
strike the probe, producing vibrations that are transmitted as electrical
signals to a computer monitor screen.
FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial’s Ultrasound Department offers
state of the art multi-modality services. Imaging is available for GYN and
emergency obstetrics (we do not do routine obstetric ultrasound services).
Ultrasound can also detect blood clots in veins, and disease diagnoses in
abdomen and pelvis regions. We also do carotid ultrasound and arterial
studies.
Ultrasound is a safe, painless procedure with no known side effects or
risks. Ultrasounds are available at FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial from 7a.m.
to 7p.m., Monday through Friday. An appointment is required.

What Preparations Do I Need For A Radiology
Procedure?
- A physician referral is necessary for all radiology procedures.
- Patients must make an appointment through Central Scheduling in the
Outpatient Clinic at 386-917-5428.
- Patients are asked to arrive at least one half hour prior to the
appointment time to allow for the registration process. Bring your insurance
card and information.
- Please bring your doctor’s order or referral as well as any special
instructions from your physician.
- Patients may find loose fitting, two piece clothing with no metal belts
and zippers to be more comfortable during tests and screenings.
- For a pelvis ultrasound, a patient must fill the bladder by drinking
plenty of liquids before arrival.
- Additional preparations for Radiology procedures may be needed. Contact
the Radiology Department for more information at 386-917-5110.
For the convenience of our patients, the Radiology Department has extended
hours in the Outpatient Clinic, Monday through Friday from 7a.m. to 7p.m.
Most studies require an appointment and may entail special preparations
