These include the AcQsim, Virtual Simulation, External Beam Radiation Therapy, Prostate Seed Implants, and IMRT.
Combining diagnostic CT scans with computer software, the AcQsim provides three-dimensional treatment planning. More precise information on the location of diseased and normal tissue enables the optimal radiation beam path combination to be pre-planned, improving accuracy and treatment results.
The External Beam Radiation involves daily treatment with radiation from an external radiation source that specifically targets the affected cancer area and minimizes the dose to surrounding normal tissue. Treatment courses typically last from 4 to 8 weeks.
Prostate Seed Implants are a one-time outpatient procedure that administers radiation directly into the prostate. The seed positions are preplanned to deliver radiation to the prostate but minimize treatment to the bladder and bowel.
Radioactive seeds are then precisely placed inside the prostate gland using ultrasound guidance to kill cancer cells. The seeds are permanent and remain
in the prostate.
IMRT is a state-of-the-art cancer treatment method that delivers high doses of radiation directly to cancer cells. IMRT allows physicians to deliver higher radiation doses directly to cancer cells while sparing more of the surrounding tissue.
