The Cancer Registry at FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial collects detailed data in order to promote the continuity of quality care for the cancer patient. Information about each patient's medical and personal histories, diagnostic workup, cancer treatments, and outcomes is entered into our confidential computer system. Patient names and medical information are privileged and strictly confidential.
As types of treatment change and technology continues to expand, software changes are created to capture these new elements of data. This data is reported to the Florida Department of Health as required by law allowing identification of preventable causes of cancer, treatment methods, and survival rates to be analyzed. The hospital itself can also evaluate the care of its own patients, perform research studies, and plan future services for cancer patients' needs.
Weekly Cancer Conferences provide a forum for physicians to discuss potential treatment options for current patients. In addition, the effectiveness of patient treatment can be compared to results obtained from other cancer centers.
