HOSPITALS DEDICATE SECOND HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HOME TO WEST VOLUSIA FAMILY
WEST VOLUSIA, FLORIDA, May 8, 2006 - FLORIDA HOSPITAL West Volusia Division will host a dedication of the three-bedroom, 1,200 square foot house it built in partnership with West Volusia Habitat for Humanity on Friday, May 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the house site located at 520 West Winnemissett Avenue in DeLand and will include prayer, song, and presentation of gifts to the new homeowners, as well as the handing over of the keys to the single mother and son that will reside in the house.
West Volusia Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian organization committed to the elimination of poverty housing throughout the world. Primarily through volunteer labor and donations, West Volusia Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent houses and sells them at cost, without interest, to qualified families in West Volusia County. House payments are used to help build additional homes.
FLORIDA HOSPITAL West Volusia Division donated the land for construction of this and three other homes. The hospitals partnered with several community groups to help with construction. The partners include Comfort Services Heating and A/C, DeLand Ministerial Association, DeLand Police Department, First Christian Church, FLORIDA HOSPITAL West Volusia Division, Rotary Club of Downtown DeLand, St. Peters Catholic Churchand West Volusia Habitat for Humanity.
Executive Director of West Volusia Habitat for Humanity Peter deVos says, "Our organization is pleased to have the dedication of these partners. It is wonderful to be helping another family in Volusia County enjoy a nice, affordable home."
