Hospitals Help Local American Cancer Society Reach One Million Dollar Fundraising Goal

DELAND, FLORIDA, May 29, 2007 – Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial joined fundraising forces to help the Volusia/Flagler area American Cancer Society reach the million dollar mark for the first time in their sixty year history.

The hospitals helped make fundraising history for the American Cancer Society in Volusia and Flagler Counties through the “Real Cowboys Wear Pink” T-shirt sale at the Volusia County Fair. On May 16, 2007, the hospitals presented a check for $2,700 from the T-Shirt sales.

Hospitals present check in the amount of $2,700 to the Volusia/Flagler area American Cancer Society (ACS). From Left to Right: Florida Hospital DeLand Chief Operating Officer Steve Otto; Volusia/Flagler ACS Area Division Delegate Beverly Grissom, Ph,D.; ACS Area Executive Director Robert Watts; Volusia County ACS Unit Operating Chair Claire Hunter and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Chief Operating Officer Evie Lowe.

“It put us over the top and we raised one million dollars this year,” said American Cancer Society Area Director Robert Watts.

According to Watts, the American Cancer Society was just $1,600 short of reaching their one million dollar fundraising goal. “With this check, we are now over our goal and we are thankful to everyone who helped us reach this milestone.”

In addition to the “Real Cowboys Wear Pink” T-shirt sales, both hospitals sponsored and participated in the annual Relay for Life fundraiser. Together their employees raised over $20,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

“Our hospitals share a strong partnership with American Cancer Society,” said Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Chief Operating Officer Evie Lowe. “We have a Cancer Resource Center on campus in partnership with the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute West Volusia as well as host support groups such as Man to Man Prostate Support Group and Look Good…Feel Better Cancer Support Group.”

Look Good…Feel Better is offered at Florida Hospital DeLand every other month on the third Monday at 6:00 p.m. and at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial every other month on the third Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Man to Man Prostate Cancer Support Group is offered at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial on the last Wednesday of every month at 9:30 a.m.

Breast Cancer Support Group is offered at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial on the first Thursday of every month at 3:00 p.m.
