Summer Smoking Cessation Program offered by Wellness Center

WHAT: The Wellness Center at FLORIDA  HOSPITAL  Fish Memorial is offering Smoking Cessation Programs to educate and help the community learn how to stop smoking.  Summer classes cover topics on wanting to quit, winning strategies for quitting and remaining smoke-free and celebrating the new you with a graduation from the Smoking Cessation Program.

WHO: Karen Wilson, C.R.T., Smoking Cessation Facilitator

WHEN: Classes start Tuesday, June 26, 2007 and meet every Tuesday for six weeks from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Class Fee: $40.00  Registration is required.

WHY: Tobacco use accounts for approximately 80% of lung cancer occurrences.  Besides being a risk factor for lung and other cancers, such as cancer of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney, pancreas, cervix, stomach and some leukemias; other smoking-related illnesses include heart disease, bronchitis, emphysema and stroke.  Tobacco use also contributes to the severity of colds and pneumonia.

Overall, tobacco use in the United States kills more people than suicide, murders, fires, alcohol, AIDS, drugs and accidents COMBINED.  It will claim over 400,000 American lives this year.
