Our qualified and well-rounded staff consists of a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (Manager), Registered Respiratory Therapists and Cardiac Nurses. Together, our mission is to provide a high level of care for each patient, which results in the highest quality of life possible.

The Wellness Center contains treadmills, stationary and Airdyne bicycles, a full line of Nautilus resistance training machines, hand weights, ECG telemetry monitoring, and a defibrillation crash cart. A staggering 250,000 deaths in the United States each year can be attributed to physical inactivity. This is so significant that the Surgeon General has issued a fourth national report recommending exercise to improve the health of Americans.

INPATIENT EDUCATION (PHASE I)

All inpatients in our hospital with symptoms of cardiac or lung disease receive a visit from out staff prior to discharge. The educational visit includes topics such as risk factor modification, smoking cessation, medications, diagnostic and treatment procedures. Our goal is to educate each patient about future procedures they undergo as well as our on-site rehabilitation programs.

REHABILITATION PROGRAMS (PHASES II)

Our comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is open to all patients with cardiac disease. However, a physician’s referral is required for this program. Common diagnoses reimbursed by most insurance companies include coronary artery bypass grafts, heart attacks and stable angina. Our goal for the recovering cardiac patient is to assist in increasing their quality of life by improving exercise tolerance and providing weekly educational seminars.
The cardiac rehabilitation program you choose should be certified by the American Association of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Our program is one of the few in Florida with this credential.

Our comprehensive Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is designed to meet each participant’s respiratory rehabilitation needs.

However, a physician’s referral is required for this program. Common COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) diagnoses reimbursed by insurance companies include emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma and pulmonary fibrosis.

In both programs, our staff closely monitors daily exercise heart rate, electrocardiogram interpretation, oxygen saturation and blood pressure. Exercise includes walking on a treadmill, riding a stationary bicycle, stretching and when possible, use of our full line of Nautilus resistance equipment and hand weights.

Weekly educational classes include dietary concerns, label reading, cholesterol, anatomy and physiology of the heart/lung, diabetes management, exercise prescription, risk factors and goal setting, medications, controlling stress, bronchial hygiene and more. These classes are open to the public and are not limited to patients in the program.

MAINTENANCE EXERCISE (PHASE III)

Our phase III program is designed for patients that have graduated from our phase II program, however patients with diabetes also qualify for phase III exercise. It is important to continue with healthy lifestyle habits learned in phase II, as benefits incurred need to be maintained. Phase III is self-pay because insurance companies will not cover this program. Registration for this program is on a monthly basis so year round residency is not required.

In this program your heart rate, blood pressure, ECG rhythm and sugar levels can be checked with each visit. Following your initial orientation, you will receive an exercise prescription that is unique to your needs. Our professional staff will supervise your cardiovascular, resistance and stretching exercises to ensure proper technique. In addition, each week you will have the option of attending support groups on weight loss and other topics learned in phase II.
