Cell Phones
The use of cellular telephones, two-way pagers and two-way radios shall be limited to areas where interference with patient care equipment is not a concern. Cell phones should not be used in patient rooms or with the immediate area of medical equipment.

Chapel
The Interfaith Chapel is always open and is located on the first floor next to the Administration office. A prayer services is held weekdays at 10:00 am.

Diet/Meals
Your doctor has ordered the diet best suited to your needs and physical condition. Your menu is planned to contain foods permitted on your diet. X-rays or tests may require that your meals be delayed or missed. Also, your doctor may change your diet for various treatments. Following completion of any such event, your meal services will resume as soon as Nutritional Services is notified by your nurse. You can request a consultation with a dietitian or dietary representative by asking your nurse or by calling extension 4525. Selective menus are available upon your request.
Patient meals are served during the following hours:
Breakfast 7:30 am to 8:30 am
Lunch 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Dinner 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Types of Diets
Clear Liquid Diet: Includes fluids that do not stimulate digestive processes or leave residue.
Full Liquid Diet: Liquid or semi-liquid at room temperature such as milk, thinned cereals, juices, strained or blended soups, ice cream and custard.
Bland Diet: Avoids all foods and beverages containing caffeine and other foods known to cause stomach irritation, such as spicy food, chocolate, pepper and chili powder. Patients may eat raw fruits and vegetables as tolerated, but should eat foods slowly and eat three regular meals per day.
Soft Diet: Contains food low in fiber that is chewed easily and digested. This includes cooked vegetables, cooked or canned fruit, tender meats, refined breads and cereals. Avoid spicy foods. Fried and highly seasoned foods are eliminated.
Dysphagia Diet: Provides blenderized and semi-liquid food that does not require chewing and is easy to swallow. All liquids are thickened to aid in swallowing.
Diabetic Diet: Provides a well-balanced, low-fat, carbohydrate-controlled diet containing servings of food from all six groups of the food pyramid and sufficient calories to maintain or attain reasonable weight.
Low Sodium Diet: Contains a variety of foods from the six food groups, restricting foods containing sodium or foods to which sodium/salt has been added.
Low Fat or Low Cholesterol Diet: Reduces amount of saturated fat found in animal fats like lard, butter, high fat meats, chicken/turkey skin, whole milk, cheese and cream. Saturated fat is also found in shortening, hydrogenated vegetable oil, some margarine, coconut and palm oil.
Low Protein Diet: Limits the amount of protein provided in the daily mean. Foods containing large amounts of protein are meat, fish, poultry, beans, cheese eggs and milk.
High Fiber Diet: Includes plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain products and legumes. Drink plenty of water to help the fiber be more effective and to prevent constipation.
Renal Diet: Restricts amount of sodium, potassium, phosphorous, protein and fluids.
Cardiac Diet: Low sodium, low fats and low cholesterol plus restricted caffeine.

Housekeeping
Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the Environmental Services staff. If you have a special need beyond the scheduled daily cleaning, please contact your nurse.

Information Desk
The information desk in the main lobby is staffed by our Auxiliary volunteers from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and 8:00 am until 8:00 pm Tuesday and Thursdays; and on Sunday from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
These volunteers provide patients and guests with information assistance and deliver mail, flowers and gifts to patients in their rooms. Flowers are not permitted in the ICU. To contact the information desk, dial extension 4810.

Internet
FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial offers free Guest Wireless Access to patient and their visitors. This service allows access to e-mail or the internet from a laptop and other wireless devices. Guest Access to the internet is available by obtaining a pass code from the information desk (extension 4810). The pass code rotates on a regular basis.
FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial provides internet access as a convenience to its patients and visitors and does not guarantee the compatibility of any particular hardware or software and will assume no liability for the security of devices utilizing the Guest Network. In addition, FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial will not be able to provide any technical support. Interpreter Services
Interpreters are available upon request through your nurse. This service is for communication between the patient and/or visitor and the staff and/or doctor.

Newspaper
Each morning a hospital volunteer delivers a complimentary copy of the Orlando Sentinel or News-Journal to patient rooms. Because there is a limited supply of papers, the volunteers only leave them if the patient is awake. If you did not receive a paper and would like one, call the Information Desk (extension 4810) to inquire if there are any available.

Nurse Call System
A call bell in your room rings to a central nurses’ station. While your nurse may not be available immediately, a team member will provide a prompt response to your request.

Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Care Department is staffed by a full time Chaplain and more than 62 volunteer clergy representing more than 25 denominations who are on call around the clock, seven days a week. These volunteer Chaplains answer our call for spiritual guidance and embrace our effort to meet the spiritual needs of our patients. For more information or to request a Chaplain, call extension 5042.
Praying Hands Program
Many of our team members embrace prayer and are willing to pray with or for you. If you notice the “praying hands” pin on a team member’s identification badge or uniform, simply approach the individual and ask them to pray.

Release Information
We respect the patient’s wishes regarding the release of information. Usually, a patient will want their closest family member to have all information possible.
Please select a family spokesperson to obtain information and distribute it to the rest of the family. The nurse caring for the patient is a good source of immediate information. We also encourage family to communicate directly with the physicians.
Information can be released only in person. Phone calls may be used to release only very general information, such as “the patient is present, in fair condition.” A patients’ rights to confidentiality are protected by law. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires that your personal health information be protected and kept confidential (CLICK HERE for more information). Should you have any questions, a copy of our privacy notice was given to you during registration for you reference.

Smoking Policy
FLORIDA HOSPITAL Fish Memorial promotes a smoke free environment. On Thursday, November 15, 2007 Florida hospital Fish Memorial will be a smoke
free campus. (CLICK HERE for more information.)
Patients and their visitors are prohibited from smoking in all rooms, buildings and at all entrances. Smoking is allowed in the patio outside of the cafeteria from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm. After 9:00 pm, the front doors of the hospital are locked and this area is closed.

Receiving Calls
Friends and family calling from outside the hospital can reach you by dialing (386) 917 plus your four-digit extension. Ask your nurse to help you find your extension number. Friends and family may also call the main number (386) 917-5000 and request your room; however, the operator does not transfer call to you room from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. Incoming calls during this time may be forwarded to the nursing station at the caller’s request.
Outgoing Calls
• Dial 9 and then the number you wish to call.
• Long distance calls cannot be billed to your room and must be collect,
calling card, credit card or third party billed.
• Please contact the hospital operator by dialing “0” for any collect or
third party billing calls.
• Toll-free calls can be made by dialing 9+1+ ten-digit number.
• Phone numbers listed as four-digit numbers can only be dialed with the
hospital system.
Hearing Impaired Information
A Telephone Device for the Deaf (TDD) is available through the hospital operator. Ask the nurse for assistance. For an amplified handset or to report equipment failure, contact your nurse. Visitors may use the TDD located at the switchboard.

Television
Each room is provided with a cable television. All televisions (except those in the ICU) are remote controlled. If you need assistance with the controls, please ask any member of our team for help. Please be considerate of others by keeping the TV volume low, especially night. We offer patient education on channel 85 featuring information about patient diagnoses and treatments and spiritual programming on channel 51.

Valuables
Your comfort is important, but we ask that you leave your treasured possessions and clothing at home. The hospital cannot be responsible for damaged, lost or soiled items. Valuable such as jewelry, cash and credit cards should be given to a family member or friend for safekeeping. If this is not possible, the items may be deposited in the hospital safe.
We have some personal supplies available on the unit. If you need something such as a toothbrush or comb, ask your nurse.
